Recently within IT circles there has been a lot of talk about web 2.0 and exactly what it means. From our perspective we see Web 2.0 as a bit of a catch phrase for something that we've been doing for quite some time now at Norex. Essentially our understanding of the concept if it were to be summed up in one sentence is:
Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web-based applications and hosted services that easily facilitates collaboration and sharing between users.
Many popular web based applications including Face book, You Tube, Flickr, Kijiji, and Myspace have leveraged open source technology like PHP / MySQL. The link between PHP and Web 2.0 is well documented and is seen by many experts as the way web based application development will progress in the future.
